Introduction
Government guidelines state that service users (people who use the services of the drug treatment agencies and substance misuse services) must have some influence regarding the ongoing development of drug treatment methods and policy.
In other words, service users are encouraged to make suggestions with a view to improving the way their treatment is delivered by the treatment services.
This way, they can have a voice and some influence over national drug treatment policy and also contribute to more localised decisions made concerning their own treatment.
In accordance, Bolton User Group Service was established in 2004 with the intention of improving the services. The group has since held weekly meetings and discussions and the staff of the Substance Misuse Service have listened to their ideas and suggestions.

Though B.U.G.S is funded from the wider Bolton Drug Treatment budget, the group strive to be independent in their views and objectives.
Opinions are equally valued regardless of personal circumstance or status. Anyone is welcome to attend the weekly group meetings.
